Establish Legal and Risk Management Requirements of Small Business

The Master Painters Association of Queensland is proud to offer a practical business management course, relevant to anyone who wishes to set up a new business.  


Online: Maximum of 20 hours consisting of:
10 – 14 hours of online learning
Up to 6 hours to complete assessment activities

Face to Face: 16 hours – 2 days face to face
up to 10 hours of learning
Up to 6 hours to complete assessment activities

Training and Assessment


Assessments consist of a range of interactive activities including:

Audio and visual response to scenarios
Written tests – short answer and multiple choice questions
The theory assessment is completed online prior to the learner attending our facility (or trainer going on site) to complete practical assessment tasks.

The system is self-marking and requires 100% satisfactory performance.


The practical assessment component for this unit of competency requires the learner demonstrate theoretical and practical application of knowledge and skills to identify and implement business legal requirements. To complete the practical assessment students will be required to demonstrate their ability to:

  • Identify and comply with relevant requirements, as applicable to the project, related to their contractual obligations including legislation and regulations, the National Construction Code and the requirements of state and local authorities 
  • Consult and negotiate with clients and other stakeholders to prepare and agree on construction contracts and requirements
  • Conduct risk and hazard assessment, including identifying suitable treatment options

Fees and Funding

This unit of competency is funded under the Construction Skills Queensland Short Course program for eligible participants

The total cost of this short course is $400. Students eligible for funding under the CSQ Short Courses program will be required to pay a contribution fee of $40 toward the cost of this course.

This course can be taken independently, or as an elective within the painting and decorating apprenticeship. This course is suitable for any person with basic numeracy and literacy skills.


We offer a range of apprentice training to help gain the necessary training and experience to become a qualified painter and decorator, solid plastering or fibrous plasterer.
